Letter from the Director

Re: COVID-19 Suspension, March 16 2020

The time has come with the recent school closures that we must do our part in the COVID-19 situation and close our doors. This was a decision that has not been taken lightly, and has resulted in many sleepless nights over the past week.
Classes will continue to run as usual until Friday, March 20th in line with the provincial government’s recommendations for our school system. After March 20th, our classes and training will be suspended until further notice.
On the weekend we completed a very deep clean of all of our equipment, and set protocols for wiping down all equipment and high touch areas in the gym. We are confident it remains a safe space as we continue classes until March 20th. As before, please do not come to the gym if you are showing any signs of sickness or have travelled overseas within the last 14 days.
Please also let us know if you will not be in attendance so we can plan our lessons accordingly.
For our Recreational and Next Gen classes, we hope to continue the current session into May provided that the suspension does not last for a long period of time.
For our competitive programs, we will be using this week to prepare some at home materials for the girls and plan to offer modified Skype distance training until April 1st. We will then re-evaluate closer the date what we will do for the rest of our season.
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t scared for the future of our club. As a new business, we have worked hard to get to where we are but have not yet been profitable – we do what we do because we love sharing gymnastics with all of you. This season was the first season that, assuming all our fundraisers were profitable (which will now all be cancelled other than our chocolate fundraiser), we would have been remotely close to breaking even. This closure will hit us hard at a very vulnerable time. We appreciate everyone’s understanding during this difficult time and will be looking for ways to keep our club going for the future.
This is a scary and tumultuous time for everyone. We hope that all our Ritmo members and their families stay safe and connected during this time and we sincerely love you all.
We can’t wait until we can be back in the gym with you again <3

About Ritmo

We offer a variety of rhythmic gymnastics classes for ages 3 and up.

Our passion for the sport drives us to provide a safe, fun, and goal-oriented atmosphere. We not only believe in the physical benefits of rhythmic gymnastics, but in the social benefits that our gymnastics community creates for everyone involved. We value honesty and open communication as we work with our gymnasts and their families to achieve success, in and outside of the gym.

What is rhythmic gymnastics?

Rhythmic Gymnastics is an Olympic sport that combines various body elements (leaps, balances, and pivots) and apparatus manipulation (ball, hoop, ribbon, clubs, rope). Rhythmic gymnasts must train to be strong, flexible, and graceful during competition, which is an extremely difficult but rewarding combination!

“Ritmo” is Spanish for “Rhythm” which is essential to rhythmic gymnastics and reflects the Latin American background of our director, Dalena Juárez.
